August Edition • Kellie's Favorite Things To Go See • Play • Eat • Use • Do In Metro Detroit

My new pup Hendrix and Frenchie Winston are keeping me busy, but summer is cooling down and I have every intention of using my free time to the fullest! This month I chose a ton of Royal Oak favorites to help you do the same and I also made a point to include a link to volunteer and fundraising opportunities with the Michigan Humane Society…it’s never too late to start supporting your local animal shelter or get involved with a cause you’re personally passionate about. Join me at this month’s Mutt March!

Here are this month’s 5 Favorite Things!

1. TO DO: Get Involved with the Michigan Humane Society: Mutt March

Ever since I adopted my new pup Hendrix, I’ve felt this longing to do even more positive work with animals! Michigan Humane Society has a ton of monthly events and volunteer opportunities to get involved in and I am making it a personal goal to participate in their events more regularly. This year’s Mutt March campaign will celebrate the human-animal bond, engaging people and pets to enjoy pet-friendly parks together! Mutt March Weekend is August 27-29 where you and your pups can participate in a multi-day scavenger hunt and other activities.

2. TO EAT: Listen to live music at Oak City Grille in Royal Oak

There’s nothing better than good people and conversation accompanied by live music. Oak City Grille is a neighborhood staple right in downtown Royal Oak and I’m so happy to see them thriving with their open patio and spacious dining room. There’s live music every night and the ambiance couldn’t be better. They have great cocktails and appetizers for a friendly meet up, and their menu has something for everyone.

3. TO SEE: Drag Queen Bingo in Royal Oak

If you’re looking to try something new or laugh your a** off with friends then try Drag Queen Bingo! It’s a fun alternative to your usual weekend outing and just $20 for shows on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and $30 on Sundays which includes a fabulous brunch buffet!

4. TO PLAY: Royal Oak Music Theatre is Back!

Royal Oak Music Theatre is finally re-open and this is one of my favorite local venues to catch a show. I love supporting local gems like this and if you haven’t been before then put it on your list! There are some good concerts popping up on their event schedule and there’s nothing better than having a bite to eat somewhere downtown and walking over to enjoy live music.

5. TO USE: Shinola Desk Clock

I finally finished my home office and one of my favorite details that I added to the room is my Shinola Runwell Desk Clock. I’m a firm believer that when your desk and workspace look good, it's easier to stay focused. This clock is basically a giant version of their iconic watches and would make the perfect gift for anyone who doesn't let time get away from them…or really anyone who works from home! You could even put it in your bedroom on your nightstand—there are a ton of fun ways to style it and it’s definitely an heirloom piece you can hand down.
